LIBS AND CONS

The American Two-Party System

May 1, 2006

I voted twice for Bush. I thought that the alternatives were certainly not any good, and in fact much worse. President Gore? President Kerry? Disaster!

Each and every day, Americans all over the nation gird themselves to enter the arena of public discourse, only, the public discourse is no longer an arena of ideas, but an arena of battle. Labels and hatred fly across the political landscape with no thought to solutions - only winning. Facts are quoted, facts are made up, and facts are distorted. Both sides hear what they want to hear and both sides dismiss the other amidst the flame of rhetoric and name-calling.

How successful has either side been? Both sides recognize that the hatred has increased. Both sides blame the other for hating America. Both sides believe the other is trying to kill America. Over what?

The only difference between the two political parties is the position on abortion and taxes. That's it. "Daring" and "cutting edge mavericks" who are believed to be the saviors of the system are those who cross over on those two points. IT'S ALL BULLSHIT. This is what we base our politics on? This is what we profess this burning hatred over?

While we fight each other in the two party system, goring each other in savage attacks and bitter recriminations, the politicians grow our government faster and faster, every year. As fast as they can. As large as they can. There's no difference in the two parties about the role of government, except as to how fast it should grow. Neither party desires to return this nation to the sanctity of the constitution of our founding fathers. Our liberties are so dead that the two parties had no choice but to set us at each other's throats. We are thus entertained with the fight, cheering our side like some pointless football game to keep us satisfied while the government continues to usurp our authority in this process. All the while, the politicians laugh at us.

Take not, both of you kinds of readers, lefties and righties: the next time your president or representative gets put on the spot for a position his constituents do not approve of, watch him trot out the cliche line - "this is an issue I care very deeply about." Well, I guess we can all sleep better at night knowing our representatives care very deeply about ignoring us and following the lead of groups like the Council on Foreign Relations. No, that's not tinfoil lunacy. The CFR has an official website: Foreign Affairs. It makes an interesting read about how this American group sucessfully pushes its anti-American agenda on not only our foreign affairs, but it's anti-liberty agenda on the domestic side as well. Every single Sec of State since the 40s, except for one, has been a CFR member. In this last election, both Kerry and Bush are CFR members.

Briefly, the CFR believes that sending American jobs elsewhere acts as an economic welfare between nations. Millions of job losses here are laughed off by the CFR as "a few months job gains in other areas." The CFR sees America and the American taxpayer as a servant and welfare agency to the world. This is NOT what the founding fathers intended.

In fact, America of today is the nightmare the founding fathers dreaded.

Following is a very pertinent article:

How is Your Voting Strategy Working Out?

by John Leone

Constitution Party Candidate for New Jersey State Assembly

Question for conservatives who vote for Republican candidates every few years because the Republicans are the "lesser of two evils."

How is your voting strategy working out?

Since "conservative" Republicans have taken over the House of Representatives 11 years ago, the expansion of government has continued at every level. Nothing has been done to stop the holocaust of abortion. Gay marriage under the guise of "civil unions" is becoming a norm in our society. Our government continues in its Wilsonian tradition of globe-trotting and nation-building with the precious blood of American soldiers fertilizing the subjected nations, making them "safe for democracy."

Nothing has been done to deter the invasion of over 10 million illegal immigrants across our southern border. Taxation as a percentage of income is at record levels. Federal and state government debts are at record levels. The middle class of the American citizenry have the boot of the government planted squarely on their necks and continue to shoulder much of the monetary burden that keeps our corrupt governments breathing.

Conservative voters, I ask you again...How is your voting strategy working out? Have the "lesser" of evils advanced your agenda? (I really don't believe that this "evil" is lesser at all...but is merely a different flavor of evil. Much like choosing between strawberry or chocolate ice cream...the underlying substance is the same with the only difference being the flavor.)

I'm not asking if they have promised to advance your agenda (because I know their rhetoric).

I'm asking, "What has the Republican Party done for you and your cause?"

Words without actions are MEANINGLESS.

To use a quote from one of my all-time favorite superheroes in one of my all-time favorite movies (Batman Begins), "It's not what you are underneath that matters, but what you do that defines you."

In politics, it's not what you SAY that matters...but what you will DO once elected to office...

Until there is a paradigm shift in the thinking of conservatives, our nation will continue slouching toward certain destruction...Until there is a revolution in the minds and thought processes of dyed-in-the-wool conservatives who regularly vote Republican, there will be no legitimate change in our nation's course...Until the conservatives arise from their mental dormancy and slumber, our nation will continue to creep toward certain judgment.

Conservative brothers and sisters...OPEN YOUR EYES!

This article was taken from the site for the American Constitution Party. Following is one of the many goals, but among the most pertinent:

State Sovereignty

Our federal republic was created by joint action of the several states. It has been gradually perverted into a socialist machine for federal control in the domestic affairs of the states.

The federal government has no authority to mandate policies relating to state education, natural resources, transportation, private business, housing, health care, ad infinitum.

The Constitution Party calls for the federal government to divest itself of operations not authorized by the Constitution. We call upon Congress to extract the federal government from such enterprises, whether or not they compete with private enterprise.

State's rights are what we lost in the Civil War when the South was defeated "to preserve the Union." The federal government was never supposed to be the answer to the nation's problems. Only the states, each one sovereign. I suggest a thorough reading of a political party determined to bring America back to its foundation, and away from this bloated behemoth that has stripped us of our liberties. Their platform can be found HERE.

Never again will I waste my vote on one of the two-party candidates unless I know for a certainty that said candidate is a constitutionalist or a libertarian. The "wasted vote" is the one thrown in among "the lesser of two evils." Both are taking us down the path to enslavement. Both are growing government as fast as they can. This isn't a game, this is our liberty.

Remember, the democrats and republicans want us to be as partisan as possible. They want us to feel anger and hate. This takes the focus off of government and places it on each other. It is a trap. Remember that the next time your politician is put on the spot and he says: "I care very deeply about this issue." Remember!
