Dictionary definitions are so dry, and usually do not paint the whole picture. What is political correctness? First, it is instructive to know that "PC" is a concept advanced by American liberals. The idea is not to say or do anything that might upset someone, politically, such as an interest group (gay group, pedophile group, women's group, whatever...).
Who is going to tell me that it is even remotely possible to be "politically correct?" Anyone? ANY comment I make will offend SOMEONE. Especially if I talk about politics in ANY fashion. Not because I'm base or rude, but because I will speak the truth. For example, one of the recent LAPD beatings of a black suspect (2004, I believe) which resulted in a shooting that left the black suspect dead, the PC news reported that the incident was a hate crime. What they didn't tell you was that the out-of-control cop was a recent black recruit with gang ties. Now, if I was to tell the truth, and put the incident into persepctive by saying, "there was no hate-crime here, the cop was a bad recruit taken from a black gang," I would be violating PC. Doesn't matter that it was the truth.
Why? Because "victimhood" is PC. So in the above incident, the only real fact that matters to a liberal was that a black man was beat and shot by the evil cop-pig system. The truth would only hurt the PC victimhood cause for this one since a black killing a black doesn't make either one a "political" victim. But if we are to leave out the truth, then the public might think that a white male cop beat and shot a black man, and thus the issue acquires a lot of political play.
So what PC becomes then, is nothing short of controlled speech that mollifies liberal interest groups and supports whatever political purposes liberals want to advance. PC is completely intolerant of the truth. Only feelings matter. Hell, I could sneeze and someone, somewhere, will think I've offended them. I don't attempt to be PC and I don't care that liberals hate it. PC and our First Amendment don't mix. PC in the hands of the government becomes the tool to force conformity in thought and speech.
PC is nothing short of George Orwell's 1984.
I will not be forced to think only like a liberal.
When you look at news reports of republicans in this country, the PC smear is constantly thrown at them. Extrapolated to its logical end, if PC were the rule, there would be no republicans. There never would have been a Ronald Reagan and we would have been going on day 5400 of the hostage crisis in Iran.
PC is nothing but a tool to aid liberals in advancing their idea of socialist utopia.
